Sightseeing Spots

World Heritage Site, A-bomb Dome

3 minutes walk from HOTEL PARK SIDE

It was built around 100 years ago as the "Hiroshima Prefectural Industrial Promotion Hall" to exhibit and sell local products in Hiroshima Prefecture. People used this building for art exhibitions and expositions, too. However, at the end of World War II the first atomic bomb in human history was dropped and this building was severely damaged by the bomb's blast and heat rays.
Since then, people have called this building the "Atomic Bomb Dome" and it has become a symbol of peace and the efforts to abolish nuclear weapons.

World Heritage Site, Itsukushima Shrine and Miyajima Great Torii Gate on Miyajima Island

Get on the street car bound for Miyajima-guchi at the stop near the hotel. You'll get to Miyajima-guchi in 45 minutes.

The World Heritage "Itsukushima Shrine" with its 1,400-year history is one of the most beautiful examples of Japanese architecture, following the Heian era's Shinden-zukuri architectural style.
When the tide comes in, the whole shrine appears to float on the ocean, and the effect is beautiful. Some people are reminded of the Ryugu undersea castle in an old folktale.
The Great Torii Gate standing in the ocean is the symbol of Miyajima.
In fact, the torii gate's pillars are not buried in the ocean floor. It's kept in place by its own weight.
The height is about 16 meters, and the main pillar's circumference is about 10 meters. It's made from camphor trees.
